There’s a reason Google is called a ‘search engine’ – people are generally there for a purpose. Think about your own habits. Usually, you hit up Google when you want to find out information about something. Information means words, whether a definition for something or a summary of a recent news item.

Google’s mission is to “organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”.

Both Google and the general public derive meaning and understanding of things through words. If you want a picture, you’ll click on the Images option when you search. Recently we’ve noticed a few people expressing concern about having too much content on their websites – but we stress to all our clients that Google is a text-based search engine. In order to crawl your website and decide where it should rank, Google needs text content – words.

At GOOP, we help businesses strike the balance between useful user-friendly and Google-friendly text content, and stunning visual design to make their website stand out from the crowd.

What’s happening

Karl attended the Pivot Summit 2015 as a member of ICT Geelong. The Summit brought together international and Australian thought-leadership to discuss the future of digital in business. The impressive speaker line-up featured Robert ‘Scobleizer’ Scoble, a leading technology and innovation blogger on the cutting-edge of digital transformation, and ANZ’s Global Head of Cyber Security, Adam Cartwright, who came out as John Snow – holding the last line of defence from the evil hackers. Between the excitement of Robert and scariness of Adam, it was a great networking event for Geelong.

Digi summit

One of our web designers is completing a User Experience (UX) course, which looks at achieving the highest level of enjoyment when users interact with a website. UX focuses on usability, user-friendliness, accessibility and ease-of-use.

The ‘Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability’ book is doing the rounds at the GOOP office too. As a team we are all dedicated to keeping up with what’s happening online to deliver the best products and results.
