How to know when to trust your local developer and when to look elsewhere

- Google “web development Ballarat” – is their own website on page one of Google? If not, don’t go there.
- Does just one person claim to provide keyword research, SEO copywriting, website design, development and ongoing support? This is an impossible task for just one person – yet these are the things your small business website will require to be prominent in Google search.
- If you want to be found in a Google search, be wary of website designers. They will most likely be able to design you something super good-looking, but will they understand keywords, SEO and be able to structure your site so that Google likes it? No point having a good-looking website on page 3 of Google!
- Might seem obvious, but look at their website. Do they have a portfolio on it? If they don’t have a portfolio on their website, alarm bells should ring. If they do have a portfolio on their website, why you don’t you try and call one of their clients and ask if they are happy?

It might not be something you’ve ever thought about, but all websites live on servers which require maintenance and can occasionally have downtime as a result.
