What’s the easiest way to boost your website’s prominence in Google searches? Simple! Write a blog.
It would be fair to stay blogging is pretty much the building block of the SEO website development by Geelong website developers GOOP Digital. We build our websites to perform in Google but we also build them so our clients can take their websites wherever they want through blogging.
Now, for those of us who find conjuring words a somewhat straightforward task, blogging isn’t that much of a challenge. Half an hour in front of the computer and a blog is written, proofread and published.
But while I find blogging straightforward, I’m also the first to acknowledge those who haven’t spent more than 30 years banging away at the keyboard writing news stories, profile pieces, sports reports and whatever else newspapers required when newspapers still mattered, don’t find blogging all that easy.
If it’s not struggling with computer keyboards, it’struggling to find time to write a blog.
If it’s not battling to find time, it’s wondering what to write about.
If it’s not wondering what to write about, it’s doubting the effectiveness of blogging.
If it’s not doubting the effectiveness of blogging, it’s comparing the effort of blogging with the simplicity of social media.
The reasons – or excuses in some instances – for not blogging are just about never ending and at GOOP Digital we reckon we’ve heard them all.
But we’re here to demonstrate that blogging doesn’t have to be a chore and we’ll do that with a few simple-to-follow steps. Read on to discover just how straightforward blogging can be.
How to blog for your business
- Blog once a month – you can blog more frequently if you want but once a month is fine.
- Plan each month’s blog in advance. Work out what it is you do – or what you’d like to be doing each month of the year – and write a blog relevant to that month. Having a plan means you don’t have to worry about what to write when the time to blog arrives.
- Set a date and time to blog and stick to it. Routine rules!
- Aim for at least 300 words in your blogs. It’s not that many, particularly if you use the method in the next point. Write in a conversational manner, just as if you were telling a story to a friend.
- Be a dictator! Can’t type or struggle to type? Then dictate your blog! Seriously, you can dictate your blog simply by speaking in Google Docs using the Chrome browser. It’s free and easy to use. Google even provides instructions on how to type with your voice. Once you’ve dictated and double-checked your blog, copy and paste it in text form into your website. Easy!
- Stay on topic. Focus on a keyword and location for each of your blogs and make sure your blog focuses on that keyword and location.
- Use the keyword and location in your blog heading.
- Be an authority. Blog about what you know. The easiest way to do this is to actually write about jobs you’ve done.
- Still struggling for blog topics? Write how-to guides. This is an exceptionally efficient and powerful way to blog. Pick any of your jobs or services and provide basic instructions for your clients. For example: How to change a light globe. How to floss your teeth. How to change a spark plug. How to keep tax records. Seriously, you have ready-made blog topics at your fingertips. Just remember to include your focus keyword and location in your how-to guide.
- Be original. Google knows when you copy from another website and ignores – and sometimes penalises – copied content. Nobody likes a cheat and there’s no need to cheat anyway. Follow our guide and you’ll see you have blog subjects galore.
